Nasar Meer and Tariq Modood ask: what is distinct about interculturalism as a political idea? What about the suggestion that it is distinct from and a suitable successor to multiculturalism? This topic is debated in a newly published volume of the Journal of Intercultural Studies which comprises an original article by Naser Meer and Tariq Modood, four responses (by Pnina Werbner, Will Kymlicka, Geoff Levey and Michel Wieviorka) and then a rejoinder.
2012 marks Northumbria's 20th anniversary as a university and to mark the occasion we are recruiting six Anniversary Research Fellows. Candidates with an interest in diasporas, migration and ethnicity are welcomed. Full time, Fixed term for 3 years.

MELLON POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN WORLD CHRISTIANITIES AND THEIR DIASPORA IN A EUROPEAN CONTEXT

The proposed focus of research should address pressing matters of social integration, citizenship, post-colonialism and the changing nature of World Christianities. It will identify how religion helps migrants establish new lives in Europe and how religious and other institutions are changed through their encounter with migrant communities.
