WORK PROFILE
Christine Jacobsen is a social anthropologist working in the field of International Migration and Ethnic Relations with a focus on issues related to Muslim minorities in Europe (France and Norway). Her work has been concerned with the changes that affect religious identities and practices in a context of international migration and transnational flows, and has focused on young people and women in particular. Theoretically, Jacobsen’s work engages with poststructuralist and feminist theory, and with anthropological approaches to Islam as a discursive tradition. It deals with themes such as gender, migration, multiculturalism, transnationalism, citizenship, tradition, agency, religion and secularism. Jacobsen is now a post doctoral fellow at the Department of Social Anthropology, University of Oslo, and works on the issue of transnationalism from the point of view of two different ethnographic fields: transnational prostitution as a form of female migration (PROGEMI), and political mobilisation and engagement in transnational networks among young adults of immigrant background (TRANSNAT).
