Heder til Jakob Stamnes

Jakob Stamnes ble på fysikermøtet i Tromsø 8-10 August tildelt Simrads pris for fremragende forskning innen optoelektronikk. Jakob mottok prisen for forskning på vekselvirkning mellom lys og biomateriale, en forskning som er utført ved IFT de siste 10-15 år. Han er den første som har mottatt prisen for 2. gang, forige gang var i 1979 da han arbeidet på Senter for Industriforskning (SI) i Oslo. 5th World Congress on Industrial Process Tomography

Geir Anton Johansen er tungt inne som arrangør av en stor konferanse i industriell prosesstomografi i Bergen 3-6 September. Nordiske atomstudenter møttes på Island i Sommer  (av Stian Sørngård)

29. juni til 2. juli var gruppen i atomfysikk på konferanse på Island. Konferansen fant sted i Nesjavellir utenfor Reykjavik. Innimellom møter med interessante talks om atom- og molekylfysikk, var det lagt inn omvisning på det lokale kraftverket, samt ekskursjon til severdighetene Althing, Gullfoss og Geysir. Været var stort sett utmerket, og som seg hør og bør når man er omgitt av store mengder varmt vann, ble mye av fritiden brukt til bading. Og da spesielt i elven som rant forbi hotellet. Strømmen var strid, vannet lettere febertemperert, og luften fylt av intens svovellukt (eller som duften av godt kokte egg). De norske konferansedeltakerne tilbrakte noen ekstra dager på sagaøyen i etterkant av konferansen. Disse ble blant annet brukt til hvalsafari, snorkling ved Thingvallavatn, og ridetur på islandshest. Gruppen for skolefysikk og formidling -

- har fått sitt første NFR forskningsprosjekt.  De er sammen med førsteamanuensis Erik Knain ved Universitet for miljø- og biovitenskap, Seksjon for læring og lærerutdanning (http://www.umb.no/7990) tildelt 8Mill kr. fra forskningsrådet til et prosjekt med tittelen ” Elever som forskere i naturfag  ” Gruppen får nå sin første stipendiat tilknyttet dette prosjektet.

Nye Utlysninger i FP7 

I løpet av november vil det bli lagt ut en ny utlysning i FP7 under Capacity-programmet hvor det er mulig å søke om penger for utnyttelse av forskningsinfrastruktur i Europa.
