rapport med råd om hvordan Norge bør forholde seg til kjernekraft basert på
Thorium. Dette vil forhåpentligvis føre til en god og spennende debatt om både
kjernekraft spesielt og energispørsmål generelt den nærmeste tiden, og
forhåpentligvis også vil der bli et sterkt fokus på den grunnleggende
kompetanseoppbygging som er nødvendig på universitetene i forhold til dette
temaet!

Bjorken expansion with gradual freeze out

Abstract:
The freeze out of the expanding systems, created in relativistic heavy ion
collisions, will be discussed. We combine kinetic freeze out equations with
Bjorken type system expansion into a unified model. Such a model is a more
physical generalization of the earlier simplified non-expanding freeze out
models. We shall see that the basic freeze out features, pointed out in the
earlier works, are not smeared out by the expansion.

Abstract:
Energy correlations in transitions from the bound state to the three-body continuum
of Borromean halo nuclei are considered. A core+n+n three-body cluster model
which reproduces the experimentally known properties of He-6 and Li-11 has been
used to study the low-lying resonances and soft modes. An analysis of the
correlated responses in He-6 shows that in the case of the narrow three-body
2(1)(+) resonance the transition energy correlations are the same as in the
intrinsic correlated structure in 3 -> 3 scattering. They differ
significantly for wide 2(2)(+),1(1)(+) resonances, and also for the soft dipole
and monopole modes, where, due to the transition operators, the intertwining of
the ground state and the three-body continuum plays a significant role.

A comparison of the probability distribution of
observed substorm magnitude with that predicted by a minimal substorm model

Abstract:
We compare the probability distributions of substorm magnetic bay magnitudes
from observations and a minimal substorm model. The observed distribution was
derived previously and independently using the IL index from the IMAGE
magnetometer network. The model distribution is derived from a synthetic AL index time series
created using real solar wind data and a minimal substorm model, which was
previously shown to reproduce observed substorm waiting times. There are two
free parameters in the model which scale the contributions to AL from the directly-driven DP2 electrojet
and loading-unloading DP1 electrojet, respectively. In a limited region of the
2-D parameter space of the model, the probability distribution of modelled
substorm bay magnitudes is not significantly different to the observed
distribution. The ranges of the two parameters giving acceptable (95%
confidence level) agreement are consistent with expectations using results from
other studies. The approximately linear relationship between the two free
parameters over these ranges implies that the substorm magnitude simply scales
linearly with the solar wind power input at the time of substorm onset.

Loss of relativistic electrons: Evidence for pitch
angle scattering by electromagnetic ion cyclotron waves excited by unstable
ring current protons

Abstract:
During geomagnetic storms the flux of radiation belt electrons can increase,
decrease, or stay constant, depending on the competition between acceleration
and loss mechanisms. We focus on loss of relativistic electrons. We use
low-altitude polar-orbiting spacecraft and analyze fluxes of tens to hundreds
of keV protons and relativistic (> 1.5 MeV) electrons during a moderate
geomagnetic storm, with a long-lasting recovery phase (4-5 d). Using data from
four local times, we find that the loss of relativistic electrons is confined
within the anisotropic proton zone and that a spatially limited loss of
relativistic electrons is spatially collocated with increased loss of protons.
The proton pitch angle distributions within these peaks are consistent with
moderate to strong pitch angle scattering due to electromagnetic ion cyclotron
(EMIC) waves. The loss of relativistic electrons collocated with protons is
found at all four local times considered (0300, 0700, 1400, 1700 MLT). Since
anisotropic proton distributions can under certain conditions generate EMIC
waves, we find strong indications that the observed relativistic electrons are
scattered into the atmospheric loss cone by EMIC waves. EMIC wave scattering is
less efficient at high equatorial pitch angles but very efficient near the loss
cone, thereby controlling the loss rate of relativistic electrons to the
atmosphere. Our observations in and near the loss cone support theoretical work
suggesting that EMIC waves can cause scattering loss to the atmosphere of
relativistic electrons over the course of a geomagnetic storm.

Abstract: BaBar kollaborasjonen publiserer stadig nye data om elementærpartiklenes
egenskaper. Sammen med Belle eksperimentet i Japan har vi et helt unikt
datasett som muligjør et vell av studier både av B-mesoner, og også av andre
partikler, slik som tau-leptonet, der disse kollaborasjonene nå også sitter på
verdens største datamateriale.
Denne
gangen rapporteres to studier av tau-leptonet (det tyngste ’elektronet’), og
det er satt nye stringente grenser for brudd på leptontall, en
bevaringslov i vår standardmodell, slik
at de grensene gir føringer for hvordan fysikk utover standardmodellen må se
ut.
Videre
har BaBaR publisert nye resultater på
CP-brytende prosesser i B-henfall, og produsert målinger og grenser for henfall
i forskjellige kanaler. Alle disse målingene er med og bestemmer parametrene i
CKM miksematrisen, som stadig får forbedret presisjon.
