Prosjektmidler  for samarbeid med USA/Canada

SIU har til utdeling prosjektmidler til norske høyere utdanningsinstitusjoner som ønsker å øke samarbeidet med institusjoner i USA og Canada. Prosjektmidlene er finansiert av Kunnskapsdepartementet, og administreres av SIU. Totalt 1,5 millioner norske kroner kan tildeles høyere utdanningsinstitusjoner i Norge for økt samarbeid med institusjoner i USA og Canada. Dette er en engangsutlysning, og midlene tildeles for det akademiske året 2009/2010.

 

Det kan søkes om støtte til prosjekter som har som mål å etablere nye samarbeid eller styrke eksisterende samarbeidsinitiativer.  Det inviteres til søknader innen alle fagfelt, også tverrfaglige prosjekter, og det kan søkes om støtte til aktiviteter på alle utdanningsnivåer. Prosjekter kan søke om beløp mellom 50 000 og 100 000 kroner.

 

Søknadsfrist er mandag 11. mai 2009.

VEILEDNING PÅ DOKTORGRAD.  3 – TIMERS SEMINAR 6. MAI –

”TRAINING THE SUPERVISORS”

 

Universitetet i Bergen har ambisiøse mål for sin forskerutdanning, og det kan være nyttig å bli kjent med hva andre institusjoner har gjort for å nå sine mål, bl.a. gjennom målrettede støttetiltak for veiledere på ph.d.-nivå.

 

Universitetsledelsen har derfor tatt initiativ til et tre- 3 timers seminar med tittelen ”Training the supervisors”. Innledere vil være Professor David Bogle, Head of the Graduate School ved University College London og Professor Neil Connelly, Academic Director of Graduate Studies ved Universitetet i Bristol. De vil presentere interessante opplegg fra sine egne institusjoner og gi verdifulle innspill til UiBs egne forskerutdanningsmiljøer.

 

Målgruppen for seminaret er instituttstyrere, og ledere av forskerskoler og andre tilsatte ved institutt og fakultet som har et faglig ansvar for forskerutdanning og veiledning av ph.d.-kandidater, medlemmene av UiBs Forskningsutvalg og Utdanningsutvalg, samt administrativt personale på alle nivå som arbeider med forskerutdanningen.

 

Seminaret holdes Onsdag 6. mai 1200 – 1500 i Auditorium 2 på Dragefjellet. Vi ber dere allerede nå om å merke av dato og tidspunkt i kalenderen.

Ground-based measurements and modeling of solar UV-B radiation in Lhasa, Tibet

Abstract: We present results from measurements by a NILU-UV Irradiance Meter of solar UV-B radiation in Lhasa. Tibet for the period from 7 July 1999 to 17 November 2002. The measured maximum UV-B dose rate was 1.50 W/m(2) during the winter, and 3.96 W/m(2), during the summer. The clear-sky values were below 3.00 W/m(2). Comparisons between measured and calculated UV-B dose rates on clear-sky days in Lhasa show good agreement. Comparisons of UV-B radiation levels in Lhasa (Tibet), Oslo (Norway), and Dar-Es-Salaam (Tanzania) show that the UV-B dose rates during the summer in Lhasa are higher than the maximum value in Dar-Es-Salaam, which is at the sea level in the equatorial region, and 60% higher than in Oslo, which is at the sea level but 60 degrees North. We conclude that the UV-B dose rates during the summer on the Tibetan plateau are among the highest levels in habituated regions of the world. Maximum measured daily-integrated UV-B doses in Lhasa range from about 10 kJ/m(2) in the winter to about 65 kJ/m(2) in the summer. (C) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
