The New Immigration Act

We would like to invite foreign employees at UiB, Uni Research, HiB and NHH for an open meeting regarding the New Immigration Act!

Agenda:
We will focus on the changes the act represents for researchers from EU and from outside the EU, already in Norway. This includes issues like renewing permits, family reunion, staying on after completion of employment contract, permanent residency etc.

Kristin Bakken tilsatt som ny assisterende fakultetsdirektør

Vi har akkurat fått melding om at tilsettingsrådet ved UiB nå har tilsatt Kristin Bakken som assisterende fakultetsdirektør hos oss. Hun vil begynne i stillingen allerede fra mandag av!

Kristin Bakken, som nå er rådgiver i fakultetsadministrasjonen, har svært bred og omfattende erfaring både fra fakultetsadministrasjonen og fra flere av instituttene, blant annet 8 år som  kontorsjef ved gamle zoologisk institutt. Hun er særdeles velkommen i stillingen!

Kurs i Forskningsveiledning av master og Phd.

Etter mange henvendingar kan me igjen tilby kurs i Forskningsveiledning. Kurset inngår som ein valgmodul i utviklingsprogrammet i Universitetspedagogikk og blir leia av professor emeritus Gunnar Handal frå Pedagogisk forskningsinstitutt (PFI) ved Universitetet i Oslo.

Handal har særdeles omfattande erfaring og er en nestor i det norske universitetspedagogikkmiljøet.

Dette kurset vil gå over to samlingar:

1. samling: 15. og 16. april – begge desse dagane i seminarrom BC520 kl 09.00-15.00 i Bjørn Christiansens hus i Christies gate 12.

2. samling: 31. mai – seminarrom C og D kl. 09.00-15.00 på Vilvite-senteret i Thormøhlensgate 51.

Maksimalt antal deltakarar er sett til 25 personar.

Abstract: The proton-to-pion ratios measured in the BRAHMS experiment for Au + Au and p + p collisions at root(NN)-N-S = 62.4 and 200 GeV are presented as a function of transverse momentum and collision centrality at selected pseudorapidities in the range of 0-3.8. A strong pseudorapidity dependence of these ratios is observed. We also compare the magnitude and PT-dependence of the p/pi(+) ratios measured in Au + Au collisions at root(NN)-N-S - 200 GeV and eta approximate to 2.2 with the same ratio measured at root(NN)-N-S 62.4 GeV and eta = 0. The great similarity found between these ratios throughout the whole PT range (up to 2.2 GeV/c) is consistent with particle ratios in A + A collisions being described with grand-canonical distributions characterized by the baryo-chemical potential mu(B). At the collision energy of 62.4 GeV, we have observed a unique point in pseudorapidity, eta = 3.2, where the p/pi(+) ratio is independent of the collision system size in a wide p(T)-range of 0.3 <= p(T) <= 1.8 GeV/c.
