and general information
Forum for science and democracy invites to debattmøte on Friday, May 28 at 14:15 in Maos Lille Røde hall at Kvarteret. Lecture from Peter Haugan with commentary by Einar N. Strømmen, Tor G. Syvertsen, Knut Holtan Sørensen and Leif Holtan Sørensen.
Nordic Nuclear Safety Research arranges seminar for users of gamma spectroscopy on 28.-29. September 2010 at Kjeller. Registration deadline is June 1 – for more information see here.
There is a great number of master students at our department about to deliver their theses in June. In order for things to function well, it would be great if you as their supervisors would find one censor and schedule the time of master exam as soon as possible. When you have decided on that, the name of the student, censor and scheduled date should be sent to Professor Jakob J. Stamnes (Jakob.Stamnes@ift.uib.no) who is the head of the exam committee.
Norway decided to support the building of the planned high-intensity neutron source to be constructed in Lund, http://ess-scandinavia.eu/. In connection with this, the Department of Energy Technology (IFE) at Kjeller have been given a clear signal for drafting a projekt for Randers-Riste Senteret which would be an upgrade of neutron source connected to the reactor at Kjeller (National research infrastructure). One of the reasons for the building at Kjeller is that this construction would become a national facility – with access to users from other Norwegian research institutions.
Following a suggestion by IFE, the dean has asked Jan Petter Hansen to coordinate possible contributions from UoB, and Jan Petter suggested that infoflyer be available in all relevant research communities. He also request a short text with scientific questions spread over half a page on possible interests for participating in the Randers-Riste Centre. There will also be an information meeting on the Centre’s activities at Kjeller (no date available yet). In case you would like to participate at the meeting, please send a note, so we can send you the invitation.
