A
Word from the Department Administration
The
follow-up of the evaluation of basic physics research in Norway continues and a
draft of the report has now been sent to the research groups by the Follow-up
Committee. The deadline for delivering suggestions/recommendations, which is
coordinated by the research group leaders who have received the draft, is set
to Thursday, September 23. at 12:00.
It is a
pleasure to see that the committee suggests the Norwegian Research Council to
use parts of its funds, approximately 30 mill. NOK
distributed over 3 years, for financing vacancies at the departments. This will
make it easier to follow up the strategic suggestions of the evaluation - although
these funds do not ultimately reach far.

The DeanÕs Office will be visiting our
department
On Tuesday
our department will be visited by The DeanÕs Office that requires an update on
our scientific achievements. Most of the time will be spent on presentations of
research groupsÕ work that will be presented by the group leaders or by those
who are appointed by the group leaders. At our faculty The DeanÕs Office
consist of the dean and the vice deans.

Boris Balakin is, for a period of 3 years, employed as a postdoc in process technology as of September 1. 2010.
Sigrid Ina Simonsen is, for a period of 3 years, employed as a research fellow in atomic/molecular/optical physics as of September 1. 2010.
