We would
like to thank everyone who joined the HES strategy seminar in Voss and
everyone who participated in the preparations. We are also thankful for the
good feedbacks regarding the events. We now have a very good basis for
working out a strategy document which will provide
us with the main lines for the following years. We would like to remind that
the results of the group work should be implemented in the reports. The
reports should be sent to the head of department until the end of this week. Special
thanks go to Tone Bergan, Bj¿rn-ge T¿mmers and Anja Hegen for clear, constructive and good lectures during
the seminar, and likewise Arve Aksnes,
Olaug Vetti Kvam, Anja Hegen,
Bj¿rn ge T¿mmers, Kjell Trengereid, emeriti Johan Stadsnes,
Jan R. Lien , Arvid Erdal and Rolf Eckhoff and
students Paul Anthony Fronteri, Chistine
Smith Johnsen and Fredrik Larsen for their time and
efforts. |
Grading of MS theses within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural
Sciences On Tuesday and Wednesday last
week, the National Faculty Meeting within Mathematics and Natural Sciences
was arranged together with the spring meeting of the National Council for
Technological Education. In order to harmonize grading across different
fields and institutions, a work group has worked out a recommendation for
generic description of every single grade which is
also adapted to the Qualifications Framework. The description is built around
five points: 1. General comments, 2. Theoretical overview, insight and choice
of methods, 3. Implementation (level, technical skills, and scope), 4. Research
and development (R&D) and 5. Presentation. These elements should be evaluated
individually, and possibly should be weighed against each other for determining
the grade. The group has also recommended guidelines for external examiners
and advisors. The groupÕs work and recommendations
are extremely trustworthy and will solve the challenges many have pointed out
at both IFT and other departments. Therefore we are, in order to implement
these recommendations, looking forward to the acceptance of the groupÕs work.
However, it is important that everyone should comply with the final decision,
if these recommendations are to be successfully implemented. |

employees / research groups are invited to apply for mobility support for
short-term stays in France and Germany in order to start up and develop new
shared research projects. The French and German collaborators in the projects
must at the same time apply for funds and receive funds to cover short stays
in Norway. The programs with France (Aurora) and Germany (DAADppp) are open for applications from all subject
areas. The full text of the announcement can be found on The Norwegian Research CouncilÕs web pages. The Research CouncilÕs eApplication should be used. Also, The
Research Council manages other schemes which support collaboration with
France and Germany: Within the priority subject areas, the French-Norwegian Foundation (FNF) may fund bilateral R&D projects which will
be implemented under the direction of business partners in both countries. FNF
will also fund seminars as well as short stays of researchers in both
countries. The E.ON Ruhrgas-programs fund MasterÕs and PhD
students and researchers for mobility stays in Germany. |
