FROm
the head of department
The department of
physics and technology is proud to be hosting the biggest Euro Physics Fun conference
so far. The grand opening will take place on Monday, April 16, but for all of
us who are not registered and still intend to participate, it is Saturday,
April 21 which counts as the start, see more below.
Show Physics will also be a part of the conference, open for all, and all you
have to do is take your kids and grandparents and show up at VilVite! Have a great weekend, News and general information
IFT seminar next Friday
All are welcome to
attend the open seminar where Danas Ridikas, IAEA holds a lecture entitled: · Fukushima – One year
after the catastrophe Friday, March 30, at 14:15, Auditorium B. Coffee, tea and cake from 14:00. Physics
show April 21.
Physics Show Bergen and
EuroPhysicsFun arrange the anual conference ShowPhysics at IFT from April 16-21. Some 50 young physicists
from the whole of Europe will gather here to discuss and improve their ways
of distributing knowledge about physics. The new lessons will be presented
live with a grand (and free) physics show at VilVite on Saturday, April 21,
from 11-15 o’clock. You will definitely enjoy this one, so book a date
already today! The participants have requested over 400 litres of liquid
nitrogen for 4 hours with the physics show. The larger part of it will be
used by PhysiScope from Geneve who will bring with them their
"levitating surf"; a board which soars upwards with the help of
superleaders over a 6 meters long magnetic rail. We hope to see you there! Physics Show Bergen and
EuroPhysicsFun Pub lecture in h-bar
All are welcome to the Pub
lecture where Professor Jan Petter Hansen will hold a lecture entitled: ·
Climate research –
seen from the perspective of quantum mechanics Tuesday, March 27, at
19:00 at h-bar. This is both for the students and employees – and there
will also be possibility for expressing your own opinions on the topic. Conversion of the parking
scheme at UoB 2012
University Council has adopted the conversion of parking scheme at UoB, which among other things implies that the number of parking spaces will be reduced by 30% by the end of 2012. This includes and will include also the parking places right outside Allégaten 55. Read more here. PhD
Trial Lecture
MSc Mathieu Ichard will
hold a PhD trial lecture with the following title:
Monday, March 26, at 13:15 in room
292, IFT STUDENTS
Important info about the Bachelor
Room
It seems that the Bachelor
Room has proven to be a success. There is constantly a great number of you
students working there and preparing for your seminars – which is fully
in accord with the room’s purpose. We are indeed very pleased! However, we are not pleased with the fact that
garbage left on desks and the floor instead of the garbage bins. There is no
need to go into the subject any deeper, except to emphasize that this cannot
continue. We therefore ask all of you using the Bachelor Room to contribute
to the room’s tidiness and good appearance. h-bar
We would like to remind you that h-bar is open
every Friday from 19:00-01:00. H-bar is run by
department’s Fagutvalget and is primarily aimed at department students
– although employees are also welcome! On Tuesday, March 27 at
19:00 there will be arranged a pub lecture with the topic Climate research – seen from the
perspective of quantum mechanics at h-bar. IFT iN
