FROM THE HEAD OF DEPARTMENT
The big news this week is that the Research
Council has announced who
goes through to the final round in the process of
selecting new SSFs. This
is good news for some, but bad news for others since only 29 out of 139 proposals
are included in the final. And we would also show our great appreciation
to everyone at IFT that took initiative or was involved with proposals that was not used. Even though there might be disappointment, we would like you to know that
it was not wasted efforts. We also
congratulate the Space Physics Group with a place in the final with Birkeland
Center for Space Science, see
also coverage in På høyden. Exellent!
Likewise, we congratulate CMR with a place in the final with Norwegian
Centre for Energy-related Safety
and Security, where IFT plays
a central role. Otherwise it was a pleasure
to attend the 7-mountain Renewable Energy Conference on Monday and Tuesday in
which over 400 participants were gathered. Many of the presentations can be downloaded
from the links in the conference program. Egil
Lillestøl and Hans Blix did an excellent job in presenting the possibilities
of nuclear power. Have a great weekend, NEWS AND GENERAL INFORMATION

refreshments in advance of the lecture that starts at 15.15. Read what the
prestigious Nature journal writes
