FrOm the head of department

In this last issue of IFT-posten on this side of the summer, I would like to thank on behalf of the entire department leadership both our employees and our students for all their contribution to a great working environment and for the good results achieved throughout this academic year. Last Thursday at the university leadership conference, the rector asked us to convey his best greetings to all of the above, as I am doing right now. We would otherwise like to remind all of the employees with a more than 20% contract to register vacation.

Best regards
Geir Anton

News and general information

Telephone and network

Regarding the new computer network, all telephones will be disconnected in the northern floor in order to install the new network on Thursday, 21. June from 12:00 and throughout the rest of the day. This means that you won’t count on fixed phones working in this period. In case some of you might be having problems regarding this issue, you have to let us know as soon as possible. The final decision regarding this work will be made on Tuesday morning, when you will be givent more detailed information.

The work on the above named network will be finished and ready to use as of 4. July, but the work on cleaning in all of the rooms where the construction had been going on will possibly take a bit longer. In the department’s budget proposal which is to be sent to the Department Council, we intend to attach a proposal on the start of Phase 2 (southern and middle wings) to be dealt with in 2013.

  Subject group meeting/ student conference

Subject group meeting / student conference will be arranged for sub-atomic physics and astro physics at the Norwegian Physics Association in Bergen from 26. -28. September 2012. More information can be found at their webpage which is finally being updated. The purpose of this student conference is that all of the participants will get a chance to present their work. All master- and PhD-students, as well as postdoc-candidates in this field are encouraged to participate with their lectures at the conference. Their supervisors are also welcome, but perhaps this time they will be more in the role of listeners than speakers....
