A WORD FROM THE HEAD OF DEPARTMENT
On Thursday, we finally sent the 2012 budget
proposal to the Department Council for evaluation. We can say that this is
going to be the year in which our department's action space will be severely
affected: Because of the fact that we get to keep considerably less of the
coverage margin at the department, we have to budget with most probably the
greatest deficit in our department's history (2.9 million NOK). The situation
is the same as the one described by our colleague Anders Goks¿yr for the department of
biology in P H¿yden this week.
The consequences of reduced action space have been investigated thoroughly
during the last years, and are well-known by now. Therefore, there will be no
need to further elaborate on this here.
NEWS AND GENERAL
INFORMATION
Update on the work on the network
We have
to expect some noise throughout the entire period, mostly by the start of a
new stage. Works that lead to lots of noise will preferably be moved to
before 8.15 am and after 4.00 pm, and during lecture breaks (between a full
hour and quarter past). In case one is disturbed during a lecture, exam or
similar activities, one has to notify the responsible party. This will then
be taken into account. Work drawings for the 4., 5. and the 6. floors are now
posted on the board in the 5. floor. Here, you will also be able to find
future plans. The areas will be cleaned as the works are completed. A
thorough cleaning will be performed when the entire project is completed. The Energy prize 2012
Do you
have an exciting idea within environment friendly energy? We need innovative
solutions in order to create a more sustainable future. Tankesmia Green
Phase, the Ministry of Oil- and Energy and Tekna will be distributing a prize
of 50.000 NOK to the best idea which promotes environment
friendly energy. More information. Students
and young researchers are encouraged to present their creative ideas!
Application deadline: March 1. 2012 Lecture free day at the faculty
We would like to bring to all lecturers' attention
that February 9. will be a lecture free day at the faculty due to an internal
student arrangement The innovation conference Grow 2012
Grow is building a bridge between
the private business sector, public sector and research- and development
environments. Join the Bergen region's biggest innovation conference:
At Grow
you will be able to receive the network and knowledge necessary to succeed in
innovation and development. International and national lecturers will be
coming and encourage entrepreneurs and established businesses to be
innovatove. Local success stories will be presented, and growing businesses
will be meeting strategists and potential investors. Knowledge is
replenishment, and replenishment gives motivation! Leading analysts will be
presenting their thoughts on the development in the future, and you will hear
more on how new services and products can be developed together with your
clients and users. We would like to wish you welcome to an active and
energizing conference with lectures, workshops and speed dating with the
lecturers. Register today – there is a limited
number of places to reduced prices for students. PhD
