From the head of
department
The University Board has
agreed upon the 2013 budget and the short version is that there are only
small changes for our faculty and IFT. It is good that the suggestion on
reducing the period between each sabbatical from 6 to 5 years will be
investigated further. We have an important tradition of having sabbatical
leaves outside Bergen
and preferably abroad, in order to promote internationalization. The total
costs, with the proposed change, will therefore be considerably more than
what is needed to secure good substitutes for teaching. Hopefully, the
faculties will be involved in the forthcoming report so that practical
deviations and priorities will also be considered.
Have a great weekend,
Geir Anton

Open lecture in PHYS 328 Selected topics in measurement science
The
Director of business development in Roxar Emerson
Process Management, Eivind Dykesteen, will be
giving a lecture in PHYS 328 to which all interested are welcome:
- Industrial Instrumentation Development
Monday October,
29 14.15-15.30 in room 292, IFT.
Dykesteen will discuss the
challenges associated with developing a concept, all the way to a commercial
product. For many years, he has had an important role within development and
commercialization of multiphase flow meters. Therefore, he has firsthand
knowledge and experience in this subject.
Seminar on the quality of education
All are welcome to a
seminar on the quality of education at the Faculty of mathematics and natural
sciences:
- The quality of
education – future challenges
Wednesday, November 7, 09.30 at VilVite
Registration deadline is
November 1 due to lunch arrangements. The program and registration can be
found here.
