a word from the head of department
Last week’s biggest
event is, of course, the funds awarded to the SFF Birkeland Centre for Space
Science. Congratulations again to Nikolai and his whole team, both here at UoB
and at other nodes within the centre, you have great respect for your
groundbreaking work in within a very tough competition. Together with the
recent ERC-appropriation, one can rightly say that space physics in Bergen, well,
in the whole of Norway, has now entered a new era. So now we have to roll up
our sleeves to make the best adjustments for the center at our own department.
This includes a bit of spatial challenges – space for space physics – for which
we, in cooperation with the faculty, have to find the solution. Have a great weekend, News and general information
IFT open seminar
All are welcome to the open seminar where Richard Firestone, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory /
Department of Physics, UoO will hold a lecture entitled: Friday, November 23, at 14:15, Auditorium B. Coffee, tea and cake from 14:00. The program for IFT’s strategy
and HMS-seminar
Monday, November
26, all departments’ permanent employees and several guests will gather for
the strategy and health-environment-security seminar at Radisson Blu Hotell
Norge. The seminar starts with a joint breakfast at 09:00 and ends with a
Christmas buffet which starts at 17:00. The topic of this seminar is: The status
of the follow-up of the IFTs strategic report 2011-15, The report with proposals
on possible changes in the lower level teaching in physics, Center for groundbreaking
education, Systematic health-environment-security work and risks, and last
but not least IFT-alumni. The programme is ready for downloading
– but there can be some smaller changes to it. h-bar
H-bar is open on Fridays from 19:00-01:00. On Tuesdays, every
even-numbered week, there are pub-lectures presented at H-bar. More info
at H-bars facebookside. H-bar is run by the
department’s Fagutvalget and is primarily aimed at IFT students – but the
employees are also very welcome! IFT in
