From
the head of department
The reconstruction of
the department is now in the final phase with the 5th floor and we would like
to ask all of you for a little more understanding and patience for the noise
and discomfort that are still not over. The reconstruction of the
administrative area is now almost finished – it now provides 10 working spaces
as opposed to the previous 7. This reconstruction has also included the
kitchen which has thus received a solid upgrade. Tran is back from her
holidays and it would be great, as previously encouraged, if as many of you
as possible use the canteen and enjoy the company of your colleagues and
co-students. Have a great weekend, News and general information

whom they wish we would invite. Available Fridays are listed in the programme.
In addition, all are strongly encouraged
to participate both at open seminars in the auditoriums and at the Horizon
lectures. Educational courses- Central
questions in research and society
At UoB you have the
chance to take elective courses with an interdisciplinary focus. Educational
courses give you possibilities
to discuss the burning issue with lecturers and students from various fields.
You will practise the skills of critical reflection over relations between
various knowledge forms and academic fields. In addition, you get to develop
the intellectual skills to engage yourself in research-based, interdisciplinary
discussions on the society’s central issues. The course consists of lectures
and discussion seminars. This fall, the subject VIT212 be entitled: Climate: What do we know? What should we
do?. Contact Synnøve Fluge if you have any questions, or if you wish to obtain more
information. New guidelines for use and handling of

Course in medical radiation physics
This fall we will start
with the course medical radiation physics, which was run last year as a trial project. This
course introduces you to the physics behind the radio therapy – i.e. radiations
interaction inside the body. The underlying concepts, the different types of
therapy, as well as the safety requirements in radiotherapy will be covered. In
addition, it offers an insight into the physicists’ various work tasks within
clinical work and an introduction to the biggest research areas within the discipline. Bachelor
h-bar H-bar opened for this fall last Friday,
celebrating it with a quiz night. The opening hours are still the same, 19:00-01:00. On Tuesdays, every
even-numbered week, there will be pub-lectures at H-bar. More info
at H-bars
facebookside. H-bar is run by IFT’s
Fagutvalget and is primarily aimed at department’s students – but the
employees are also welcome! As of next Friday there will be two new beer
sorts available at the bar: ATLAS and Heavy Flavour – those of us who tasted ASIM
during the 2013 Physicists Meeting have very high expectations! Publikacations registered in ISI Web of Science
