From the head of department

Last Tuesday, the rector announced that the Health Minister of Norway came up with a surprising, but well-prepared visit to Bergen. And Jonas Gahr Støre came and announced that Bergen will get a regional centre for proton therapy / cancer treatment – and that possibilities for a carbon therapy centre should be further studied. Those are also good news for the Department of Physics and Technology which already has a considerable competence within this area, but which now may be strengthened even further.

Have a nice weekend!

NTVA

NTVA and Tekna invite to an afternoon seminar in Bergen:

     Bergen – City of Knowledge

UoB, Department of Physics and Technology, Allégaten 55 (northern entrance) room 359 (Bachelor room) in the middle block.

     Tuesday, September 17, from 16:15 – ca. 18:00, simple meal at 18:00.

Registration latest by 15:00 o’clock on Thursday, September 12, for those who want to stay for the meal (at no cost).

The concept of ”Bergen – City of Knowledge” was first launched some 6 years ago and has since been a topic at a number of contexts, most recently during the UoB rector elections campaign this spring. The phrase implies that Bergen – City of Knowledge is comprised of several actors with various standpoints, as well as that an important key for growth and development includes both cooperation and strategic interaction among these actors. Have we succeeded in achieving this? Is there more to it? And if so: How can we procede together to build Bergen, City of Knowledge to become an even more attractive city for students, researchers, business founders and developers? What concrete actions are required? We invite three central representatives for Bergen – City of Knowledge to enlighten these issues from their respective standpoints:

·       Rector Dag Rune Olsen from University of Bergen

·       Rector Ole-Gunnar Søgnen from Høgskolen i Bergen

·       Administrative Director Marit Warncke from Bergen Chamber of Commerce

Welcome to this exciting event!
