From the head of department
I would like to encourage all employees and students to support our
canteen. We are very lucky to have a great cook like Tran and we would like
her to have the best possible basis to continue her business. It is also good
for the people at the department to meet each other across different
disciplines and functions. Have a good one, News and general information
Seminar: Physics and radiotherapyEverybody must have by now heard about the the news that Helse Vest has been given the task of planning a proton therapy center in Bergen. Just before that, our rector, who is also a professor of medical physics, wrote a good article about this in På Høyden: Partikkelfysikk i kamp mot kreft. The establishment of such a center in Bergen will have consequences for our department both within research and education. Therefore we are having this seminar in order to present some of the possibilities.
All are welcome
to an exciting and highly relevant seminar! Workshop: Integrated system analysis
Researchers
with interest in integrated system analysis and multi-disciplinary
collaboration are welcome to a workshop with International Institute for
Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA):
From the
program: Future Energy Challenges and Opportunities For more
information and registration, see The research council's web-page. Digital evaluation and examination
in the spotlight, November 13 and 14
Norgesuniversitetet and UHR's group of experts in digital evaluation
and examination would like to invite to a seminar in Bergen in collaboration
with the University of Bergen. The seminar will have a practical approach to
the theme with focus on good examples, new possibilities, experience sharing
and preparation of common challenges. The target group for the seminar is
scientific, technical and administrative employees, leaders and others who
are interested in the seminar's theme. The seminar will take place on November 13 and 14 at the Law Faculty, Dragefjellet, Magnus Lagabøtes plass 1. The registration deadline is on October 28. For information about the program, registration and practical info, see the seminar's web-page. Budget for open access publishing at the University of BergenAt UoB's board meeting on 29.11.2012, it was decided to allocate funds to cover costs associated with Open Access-publications. This is a pilot scheme for 3 years and a total of 1.5 M NOK is allocated for this purpose in 2013. The funds are distributed to the faculties and the University Museum according to assoc. prof. and prof. Positions, as well as deans and department heads. Employees, PhD candidates and Msc students can apply for funds here. Information meeting about erasmus+
SIU
will be coming to UoB in order to inform about Erasmus+. The academic units are
encouraged to be represented at the meeting at both administrative and
scientific levels. Tuesday, October 22 13:00 - 15.30 in Egget, Student Center. EU
has accepted a budget for the new collaboration program within education,
which was given the name Erasmus+. Erasmus+ will in many ways be an extension
of "Lifelong Learning Programme - Erasmus", which will be formally
ended in the academic year 2013/14. STAffWe are happy to wish a new colleague welcome to the department:
Bachelor
h-bar H-bar is
open every Friday 19:00-01:00. On Tuesdays, every even-numbered week, pub-lectures are held at
H-bar. More info on H-bar's
