From the head of departmentAt the end of this week,
it is a great joy to register that faculty board promoted Kjetil Ullaland to
professorship in physics following the recommendation by the expert committee.
Congratulations Kjetil! It is also a great
pleasure to inform the last year’s bachelor students who intend to continue
as master students at our department that they can now make arrangements and
get access to the department/ Bachelor room outside the usual working hours,
read more information below. Have a great weekend, Geir Anton News and general

Anna Lipniacka reports
from Atomiade 2014 in Flachau, Austria
Atomiade is like the Olympics for researchers, and
is organized by ASCERI (Association of Sport Communities of European
Institutes). The goal of ASCERI is: "To take care of human and sporting
contacts of the members of public Research Institutes at European
level". Winter games were held this year from March 8-15, and they
included disciplines such as cross-country
and alpine. UoB is unfortunately not part of ASCERI, so Anna L. was therefore
participating as member of the CERN team. It was a very interesting experience,
with great weather conditions, and very successful for the team which won in
total 30 medals, as well as 2nd place in team qualifications. The
next winter games for researchers will take place in Grenoble in 2017, and IFT
might possibly become a member of ASCERI by then? More info and photos: http://asceri-wintergames2014.eu

Petroleum- and Process technology, ranging from the first year of bachelor
studies to the last year of their master degree. Everyone from
the team would like to thank Stig Holme Lie for starting up the football team,
and can guarantee that we will keep this great tradition. We congratulate the
Petroleum students B.I.L on a fantastic season, and wish the team good luck in
the 2nd division. Marie Curie Individual
post doc Fellowships
This
program is open for all scientific disciplines and supports post docs who
would like to work either in Europe or in any country in the world. You can
get stipends (salary, travel costs and living allowance) for 12-36 months
depending on where you want to go. This is also a fantastic opportunity to
recruit new postdocs at the department. The
deadline this year is September 11th. More information can be
found on the call page and on UiBs Horizon 2020 website. Bachelor
Agreement on
access-cards for 3rd year bachelor students of IFT We have now finally
defined the guidelines which allow 3rd year bachelor studelnts with the
ambition of continuing as master students at the Department of Physics and
Technology, who can now already make arrangements and get the access card to
the department. We have drafted and agreement which explains in more detail who
may qualify for such access, as well as the procedure to apply for the access
card. These guidelines can be downloaded and submitted to the leaders of the IFT
Fagutvalget for signature, before it is submitted to department’s
administration. PhD
Disputations
h-bar H-bar is open every Friday from 19:00-01:00. On Tuesdays, every
even-numbered week, there are organized pub-lectures at H-bar. More info
at H-bars
facebookside. H-bar is run by IFT’s Fagutvalget
and is primarily aimed at department’s students – but employees are also very
welcome! IFT in the media
