A Word from Department Head

Last Friday I had the pleasure of joining the very first Master Ceremony for those who completed their degrees during the last academic year. It was a nice way of marking the completion of degrees, and I believe that many students appreciated it. A photo of all completed IFT Master students is presented further on in this issue of IFT-posten

After yet another great weekend it is about time to for once acclaim: finally Monday!

Have a great week.

News ands general information

NorRen Summer School

In cooperation with CoSSMic, NorRen has the pleasure of inviting all PhD students working with renewable energy at one of the Norwegian universities to NorRen interdisciplinary summer school. It will take place from August 11-15 at Holmen Fjordhotell at Asker. As already pointed out, the school is primarily aimed at PhD students, but is also open to young researchers working with renewable energy. More information can be obtained from here.

Publication of Master theses in BORA

IFT would like to encourage all students who still have not published their theses in BORA (Bergen Open Research Archive) to do it. BORA is for now the only place for archiving and publishing of Master theses at UoB, and is a great way of making public the things you as a student have been working with the last couple of years. Publishing is voluntary, and the work can at any given moment be retracted from the archive. In some research communities, there is a rumor that publishing in BORA can make later publications in other scientific journals more difficult, but according to the University Library such examples were never the case. You can read more on publishing of Master theses here, as well as on your rights (particularly in relation to potential publishing of research results in scientific journals): http://link.uib.no/4nxjj

Bachelor

h-bar

H-bar is open every Friday from 19:00-01:00.

On Tuesdays, every even-numbered week, there are organized pub-lectures at H-bar. More info at H-bars facebookside.

H-bar is run by department’s Fagutvalget and is aimed primarily at department’s students – but employees are also welcome!
