Agricultural Economics in Bergen

Since 1985 Agricultural Economics has been an important field of research at the Institute for Research in Economics and Business Administration (SNF). The research is conducted in close collaboration with researchers from the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration (NHH) and the University of Bergen (UiB). The Research Council of Norway and different ministries are important sources for finance.

Our main effort has been to develop numerical agricultural models for Norway. These models have been used to analyze the effects of liberalizing trade in agricultural commodities, and to consider efficient policy instruments to achieve agricultural policy goals. A special topic has been to analyze optimal policy instruments and support levels to promote agricultural public goods, such as, rural viability, maintaining the cultural landscape and food security.
