June 24 - 28, 2013
Bergen, Norway

Interplay between analysis and geometry proved to play a distinguished role in modern mathematics combining and developing many sophisticated methods and finding many applications in adjacent areas of sciences such as mathematical physics, mechanics and PDE. The aim of this summer school is to highlight the state-of-the-art and perspectives of those domains of analysis and geometry, which have gained wide international recognition lately and to introduce them to Ph.D. students and young researchers.

The scientific program of the school will consist of 5 mini courses of 4-5 hours by invited lecturers, and several one-hour lectures. We also plan to include poster session, where Ph.D. students and young participants can share their results.

This scientific event is financially supported by Forskningsrådet Research Projects FRINAT 204726/V30 and 213440/BG at the Analysis Group and by the Department of Mathematics at the University of Bergen.

Accommodation and support

The school will be held at the auditorium Pi (number 314) Department of Mathematics at the University of Bergen. The address is Johannes Brunsgate 12, 5008, Bergen.

We invite  Ph.D. students, postdocs and young researches to participate in the school and contribute to it with posters. Those who wish to participate in the school, are asked to fill in the Application Form and send it by e-mail to the contact persons before June 1, 2013.

You can book a room at the Park hotel or at the youth hostels Bergen YMCA hostel or Montana Youth Hostel Bergen. A modest support, 150 NOK discount per day in the hotel/hostel, is available at the early-bird principle for Ph.D. students. The final deadline for application for this support is April 15, 2013.

Lunches during the working days of the school are provided for all participants by the organizers.

N.B. Please remember that Bergen is a popular touristic center and you need to book your accommodation in advance, preferably before April. If you have problems with booking, please contact us

We notice that Montana Youth Hostel is a good hostel, but the only problem with it is that it is located outside the city center. That means you will have to take bus #12 twice a day (which will cost 29NOK each way), and the travel time will be around 25 minutes each way.

The fact that Montana is outside the city center may become a serious (financial) problem in case you have a particularly early/late flight when arriving or departing, because before taking the airport bus you will have to get to the city center, but #12 only goes between 6 am and around midnight. Taking taxi from/to the airport may cost around 300 NOK.

On the other hand, YMCA is located in the very city center, and there is a stop of the airport bus nearby (the airport bus operates all night through). Getting from YMCA to the department of mathematics will only require a 20 minutes walk through some picturesque tourist spots of Bergen. So, keep that in mind when choosing your accommodation. Also, try not to take too long booking, because the tourist season is approaching.
