Eurames is encouraging the development of Internet-based thematic workings groups around particular topics. This service is still under development, and the link below, to an existing group that will be included in the Eurames network, is only meant as an example of how these may develop.

    Cinema in the Middle East

An interdisciplinary research network has been established by the Centre for Research on the Arab World (CERAW) at the University of Mainz, Germany. The research network deals with various aspects of film production in the Middle East and the depiction of the reality of life in this region as seen in national, American, European and Indian films. Fields of research range from the cinematic depiction of "real" ways of life, e.g. in the form of common "oriental" or offensive stereotypes with specific political intentions, to an analysis of economic structures and socio-economic interconnections of the film industry in countries of the Middle East. Studies focussing on gender, social class and other issues raised by various disciplines such as Islamic studies, sociology, ancient and contemporary history, anthropology, geography, politics and economics are also included.
