News and general information

Applications IFT – Bachelor and Master

The number of applications from Samordnet Opptak has now been published. For the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, the number of applicants has increased by 79 % over the period 2008 -2013. For our department, the number of applicants for bachelor programmes as follows:

·       Physics: 55 (+2 from 2012, an increase of 3,8 %)

·       Petroleum- and process technology: 266 (+58 from 2011, an increase of 27,9 %)

The main application deadline for master studies was April 15. The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences had in total 605 applications by those who chose their programmes as priority (compared to 518 in 2012), and IFT holds its numbers at 120 applications (compared to 112 applicants in 2012). The applicants were divided over the respective programmes as follows:

·       Physics: 34 (+ 4 from 2012)

·       Petroleum technology: 39 (+4)

·       Process technology: 47 (same as previous year)

Course books for the fall 2013 – message from Studia

Studia is working on obtaining the right number of chosen course books ready for the autumn semester, and it is therefore important to obtain the course book lists from all course lecturers in due time. This year, the deadline is set for May 6, and as usual we also draw out five gift cards of 1,000 NOK in value among those who deliver their lists within the deadline. Coursebook lists should be sent by e-mail.

Studia needs to know the title of the books, authors’ names, possibly also the ISBN and publisher name, as well as the number of students per course. In case of no changes to your course book lists from previous year, Studia would like to be informed about that as well.

Compendia needs for the fall 2013 – message from Studia

The deadline for reporting the need for compendia is May 6. It is important to get feedback on this even if there are no changes and the same compendium will be used as the previous year.

The information you should report is the course code, possible changes to the previous compendium, the number of compendia you will need printed out, special specifications such as coloured front page / coloured print / hard cover etc.

Ordering form should be sent to Inger Line Mæland

·       Halvor Hobæk (Acoustics)

·       Egil Lillestøl (Subatomic Physics)

·       Øystein Olsen from October 1 (Nano Physics and Electronics)

·       Per Osland from February 1 (Subatomic Physics)

·       Johan Stadsnes (Space Physics / Birkeland Centre)

·       Jakob Stamnes from July 1 (Optics and Nuclear Physics)

·       Finn Søraas (Space Physics / Birkeland Centre)

·       Kjell Aarsnes (Space Physics / Birkeland Centre)

The terms for granting the status of active emeritus is work which is relevant for the department and which on the average takes place ca. one day a week via:

·       Individual research and publication,

·       Teaching contribution,

·       Supervision contribution,

·       Popularization of science in the media,

·       Other activities approved by the department head

The department has in addition several other emeriti who occasionally appear at the department.
